Geologist-turned-founder Hunter Harlow joins Rogers Healy to talk about building Sendero Provisions Co. in Waco, Texas. He started with a single hat in 2014 and grew it into a head-to-toe apparel brand with a loyal following.

Hunter is a sixth-generation Texan and Baylor-trained geologist. He got his start making better hats than the ones he saw at Big Bend National Park. Today Sendero spans about twenty categories under one slogan: West of Ordinary.

In this episode:
  • How a geology background shapes the way Hunter builds a brand
  • The early days, when he packed every order himself
  • Growing pains: shipping a hundred hats a day and sourcing overseas for the first time
  • Why trust and “work spouses” hold a company together
  • Building a brand in Waco, "a blank canvas… it might be twenty-five percent painted"
  • The surprise women’s dress line, with sales up roughly 1,000% year over year
  • Sendero in sixty seconds, plus his favorite and most overrated rocks
“Love people, have fun, work hard. In that order.”
